New Delhi:

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts or BAFTA announced the nominees in key categories for the upcoming 72nd edition of the award show, which is often dubbed as the British Oscars. The Hollywood award season recently started with the Golden Globe awards, which concluded over the weekend where Bohemian Rhapsody, film on Queen and its frontman Freddie Mercury's meteoric rise in the music industry, baffled everyone by winning the coveted Best Film (Drama) prize. It defeated this season's favourite A Star Is Born headlined by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (also the film's director). For BAFTA, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born will compete in seven categories along with First Man and Roma.

However, Yorgos Lanthimos' period piece, The Favourite, leads nomination with 12 nods including Best Film, Outstanding British Film and Best Director. Olivia Colman is also nominated for Leading Actress for her role as Queen Anne, and Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone are both nominated for Supporting Actress.

Lady Gaga will compete with Olivia Colman in Best Actress category for her role in A Star Is Born, which is also nominated in Best Actor, Best Director, Original Music and Best Film categories. At the Globes, Lady Gaga picked the Best Original Song award.
