Jalpaiguri Assembly Election 2021

One of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, West Bengal's Jalpaiguri will go to polls on April 18 along with two other constituencies-Darjeeling and Raiganj. The constituency consists of Mekliganj, Dhupguri, Maynaguri, Jalpaiguri, Rajganj, Dabgram-Fulbari and Mal assembly segments.

About Jalpaiguri

West Bengal's Jalpaiguri went to polls on April 18 along with two other constituencies-Darjeeling and Raiganj. The constituency consists of Mekliganj, Dhupguri, Maynaguri, Jalpaiguri, Rajganj, Dabgram-Fulbari and Mal assembly segments. Except Dabgram-Fulbari, all the assembly seats in Jalpaiguri are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories. As per the ECI record, a total of 1731834 voters will exercise their franchise in the Jalpaiguri constituency, which includes 18 third gender voters. The voting will be held in 1868 polling booths.

Ruling party TMC is fielding the sitting MP Bijoy Chandra Barman against CPM's Bhagirath Chandra Roy and Congress candidate Mani Kumar Darnal. Among other key contenders are Bharatiya Janata Party nominated Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy and Bahujan Samaj Party contestant Jiban Krishna Majumder.

Among other contenders are Khushi Ranjan Mondal (Amra Bangalee party), Ranjit Kumar Roy (Samajwadi Jan Parishad party), Subal Chandra Roy (Kamatpur People's Party) and Haribhakta Sardar (Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist)).

Haribhakta Sardar is contesting for the Jalpaiguri seat second time in a row.

12 contestants are independent candidates.

In the 2014 general election, Bijoy Chandra Barman won the seat with 494773 votes. He defeated his nearest rival CPM nominated Mahendra Kumar Roy by 69606.

In the last election, 16541 votes which was 1.08% of the total votes were exercised under the NOTA option.
