Votes cast by over 7 crore electors will decide the fates of the opposition Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) and the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. The Bihar Assembly election 2025 which was held in two phases on November 6 and 11. The results will be declared today, November 14.
The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led alliance's governance record and the opposition's swipes on issues ranging from development to law and order have remained a mainstay during campaigning.
While Nitish Kumar leads the NDA's campaign, the Mahagathbandhan has named Tejashwi Yadav its chief ministerial face. Also positioning itself as the third dimension that may cause a dent in rival's fortunes is political strategist Prashant Kishore's Jan Suraaj party. Junior NDA ally Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) introduces a critical layer of alliance dynamics and kingmaker potential by securing a significant number of seats within the alliance.
The NDA currently holds 131 seats – BJP 80, JD(U) 45, HAM(S) 4, and two independents. The Opposition has 111 seats – RJD 77, Congress 19, CPI(ML) 11, CPI(M) 2, and CPI 2.
The election came months after the contentious voter roll revision exercise, which came under intense scrutiny and criticism by the Opposition. When the final electoral list was released on September 30, the total electorate decreased by approximately 38 lakh from 7.8 crore on January 1, 2025, to 7.42 crore in the final rolls. On the final list, 21.53 lakh names were added and 3.66 lakh were removed.
