The counting for Delhi University Students Union polls which were conducted yesterday, are underway. According to reports, the votes in South Campus of the University are being counted first.

DUSU Election 2017: Counting Underway, ABVP Leading On All Four Posts

New Delhi:  In DUSU Elections 2017, NSUi and ABVP candidates emerged as winners with each party clinching 2 posts each. While NSUI candidates won for the posts of President and Vice Presidne, ABVP candidates wrested Secretary and Joint Secretary posts. The ABVP had held three posts in the outgoing panel. The counting for Delhi University Students Union polls, began early on September 13, 2017. According to reports, the votes in South Campus of the University were counted first. After the initial rounds of counting ABVP was leading the poll on all four posts. However, after 50% of counting was over, NSUI was seen catching up and by the 11th round of counting, NSUI was leading on all four posts. During the last rounds of the counting both parties were leading on 2 seats each.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh' s Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Indian National Congress' s National Students Union of India (NSUI), CPI (M)' s Students Federation of India (SFI) and CPI (ML)' s All India Students' Association (AISA) were the main contenders for the four central panel seats in DUSU Elections.

ABVP was leading the DUSU counting in the initial rounds but after counting of almost 50% votes, NSUI was back in race and was leading on three posts. ABVP was still ahead for Secretary post.

As per reports in PTI, there was a feeble turnout of voters for the Students Union elections in Delhi University with only about 43% students turning up to cast their votes.

In this years' DUSU election, ABVP fielded a political science student from Motilal Nehru College, Rajat Choudhary as its president candidate while Paarth Rana, Mahamedhaa Nagar and Uma Shankar contested for the posts of vice-president, secretary and joint secretary respectively.

From NSUI, Rocky Tuseed who is an MA Buddhist Studies student, Kunal Sehrawat, Meenakshi Meena and Avinash Yadav contested for the top central panel posts.

Apart from ABVP and NSUI, AISA and SFI were also in the fray.

Reports have also emerged that a lot many students preferred NOTA instead of voting for a candidate.

After the win, NSUI said the students of Delhi University have given the party a huge responsibility to fight for their rights. The Congress's students' wing also said in a tweet that this mandate shows that students throughout the country have rejected the poisonous and divisive ideology of RSS.
 
Former President of DUSU and Congress leader Ajay Maken congratulated the winners.

 
NSUI had managed big wins in Panjab University and Gauhati University Student's Union elections recently.

An ABVP member, reacting to the turnaround, told NDTV: "We were in the union for four years. These are dirty tricks by the Left and NSUI. The Left put out dummy candidates to help the NSUI win."
