Man fakes death to seek revenge from 'unfaithful' wife

New Delhi: A man has been arrested after he murdered a stranger and passed off the victim as himself to take revenge on his cheating wife, and later ran off with her lover's sister, police said on Saturday.

Sohan Lal, 32, was arrested on Friday from Okhla area of south Delhi, on a tip-off, a senior police official said. He had faked his death in connivance with his father and brother to incriminate his wife, who allegedly had an affair with her relative, Sonu.

"Sohan along with his father Ganga Ram, brother Sanjay and friend Chandan found a drunkard, who matched his age, and appearance, lying under a flyover in Faridabad on the night of March 19. They carried him into their car and strangled him. Sohan planted his wallet with his identification cards on the body before dumping it in the Palwal Canal," the officer said.

Police recovered the decomposed body on March 22. Sohan Lal's father and brother identified the body as Sohan Lal's and accused his wife Lakshmi of the crime, alleging she wanted to kill him because of her illicit affair.

Lakshmi, her brothers Jal and Inder Singh, and Sonu's father were arrested. They are still in jail, said police.

Meanwhile, Sohan Lal who wanted to avenge his wife's alleged affair with Sonu, eloped with Sonu's sister on the same night that he faked his murder. Sohan Lal was living in Badarpur area of south Delhi with her.
