Dust storm in Delhi: The sudden weather change resulted in very low visibility

New Delhi: A sudden thunderstorm and rain hit Delhi today evening. Visibility was reduced because of the dust storm and traffic slowed down in several areas of the national capital. The sudden change of weather came after a scorching hot morning. The sky turned cloudy at around 4.30 pm. Humidity was recorded at 60 per cent at 8.30 am, according to the Meteorological department. The Met office forecast also said light rains would follow the dust storm. The dust storm also interrupted a programme that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was to attend in east Delhi's IP Extension.

Around 40 flights were grounded at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport as well, according to news agency ANI. The weather office said the wind speed was recorded between 50 and 70 kmph.

A person has died in Noida and two have died in Delhi after a billboard collapsed due to the thunderstorm which hit Delhi, in a sudden weather change.

Nine people have died in Uttar Pradesh after the thunderstorm.

In Andhra Pradesh, eight people died due to a thunderstorm, while three were killed in Telangana, according to officials.

Six people have died in West Bengal as well due to thunderstorm.

More than 40 flights have been diverted at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport as bad weather in the capital continues, according to news agency ANI

According to the National Disaster Management Authority or NDMA, Delhi, Gurugram, Meerut, Rohtak, Bahadurgath, Bhiwadi, Sohna, Palwal, Jhajjar, Manesar, Hasanpur, Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Aurangabad, Aligarh, Kharkhoda, Sonepat, Bagpat and Bulandshahr will receive rainfall for the next two hours.

People in open areas were seen running for shelter as trees swayed about them. Delhi shoppers at crowded markers were also taken by surprise as sudden strong winds hit light structures.



At bus stops in south Delhi, people were huddling together to protect themselves from flying debris. Tree branches could also be seen strewn around the roads.

Indian Meteorological Department recorded 60 per cent humidity in the morning

Today morning, the weather department recorded 60 per cent humidity at 8.30 am. The weather department had yesterday predicted Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmit and Himachal Pradesh would witness thunderstorm.

Sudden Weather Change Leads To 10 Flights Being Diverted, Noida Metro Stalled

The sudden change in Delhi's weather resulted in 10 flights being diverted from the Delhi airport. Weather conditions have also resulted in the Noida Dwarka Metro line being stalled for 30 minutes because of the bad weather conditions.
