On Friday also, the entry and exit gates at Patel Chowk and Janpath metro stations were closed for over an hour due to protests against the amended citizenship act.

The stations were closed after the Delhi Police issued an advisory keeping in view the protest march by the students of Jamia Millia Islamia from their university campus to the parliament to express their opposition to the controversial legislation.

Per the amended citizenship act, lakhs of immigrants from religious minorities - Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians - will get Indian citizenship, even if they do not have any document to prove their residency.
