Three held for stealing car for joy ride in Delhi

New Delhi: Three men were arrested here with a car they had allegedly stolen for a "joy ride" in the city, police said on Thursday.

Gaurav Goswami, Raju Bhardwaj and Sonu Khan were arrested with the stolen car by police during a vehicle checking drive at Mangal Bazar Chowk in north-west Delhi on Tuesday, they said.

The car belonged to one Gurmeet Singh, a resident of D-block in Jahangir Puri.

According to police, the three youths had stolen Singh's car on the night of Monday.

"During interrogation they revealed that they celebrated the birthday of Gaurav in A block in Jahangir Puri and also consumed liquor. Gosawami persuaded Bhardwaj and Khan to steal a car for a joy ride to celebrate the occasion to have more fun. During this process, they reached D-Block and stole the Santro car," a senior police officer said.

Singh had lodged a complaint of car theft on Tuesday, police said.
