Chandigarh: A self-proclaimed god-woman and her guards fired several shots in the air at a wedding in Haryana's Karnal town on Tuesday, killing the groom's aunt and leaving three of his relatives critically wounded.

In video footage, Sadhvi Deva Thakur is seen smiling and firing her revolver in the air along with her men at the wedding venue in the town around 120 km from Delhi.

"People were dancing. She asked the DJ to play her song saying she wanted to dance and shoot with it," a guest told NDTV.

"She pulled out her revolver and fired several rounds. Her aides even reloaded the weapon and she fired again," he said.

The armed bunch allegedly aimed at the crowded dance floor and kept firing even as the families of the bride and groom begged them not to. As the groom's aunt collapsed, the Sadhvi and her group ran away.

The police have charged them with murder and carrying weapons and have formed several teams to hunt for them.

Karnal is the assembly constituency of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who heads the state's BJP government.

The so-called god-woman, who wears all-saffron robes and gold jewellery, is known to fancy firearms and has a flashy lifestyle.
