'Miracle doctor' arrested for cheating, forgery

Mumbai: A self-proclaimed miracle doctor was arrested on Wednesday on charges of cheating and forgery after his plea for anticipatory bail was rejected by the Supreme Court, police said.

The accused Munir Khan was arrested on his surrender before police. The apex court had rejected his plea two days back, S J Nalawade, Senior Inspector at Versova police station told PTI.

He was produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody till May 17. Earlier, three aides of Khan were arrested in the case, police said.

Khan, who was on the run for the past one year, has been accused of cheating over 120 people by claiming that his medicine 'Body Revival' can cure all diseases, including cancer and he had celebrity clients as well. The medicine was priced at Rs 16,000 for 100 ml bottle, police added.

"Over 120 people complained to us in writing and about 64 victims' statements were recorded so far," he said.

Khan's advertisements on TV channels regarding his medicine featured him with yesteryear television actor Tabassum. The actor had also intervened in the case, saying he had misled her into appearing for advertisements, police added.

Last year, Khan's clinic at suburban Versova was raided by the Food and Drugs Administration.

He has been booked under various sections of IPC, the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act and The Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act.
