Wipro shares jump almost 3% after inclusion in Nifty

Wipro shares gained sharply on Wednesday, a day after the Bangalore-based outsourcer was included in the 50-share Nifty benchmark.

Wipro shares traded 2.42 per cent higher at Rs 466 on the National Stock Exchange as of 12.8 pm.

Wipro, which replaced Anil Ambani promoted-Reliance Infrastructure in the National Stock Exchange's 50-stock Nifty on Tuesday, is India's third largest software services exporter.

Earlier, Wipro was dropped from the CNX Nifty index from April 1 as its non-IT businesses were hived off into a separate unit.

"A corporate action like our demerger of a listed company would generally result in a short term withdrawal of the scrip from the index as it has been happening in the past where such corporate action had been initiated," Wipro had said in a statement in Feburary.
