Abidali Neemuchwala had joined Wipro last year after a long tenure of over 23 years with TCS.
Wipro has elevated Abidali Z Neemuchwala, the current group president and chief operating officer of the IT company, as chief executive officer and member of its board. Current CEO TK Kurien has been appointed as executive vice chairman.
Both these appointments are effective from February 1, 2016.
"In his 9 months as group president and CEO, Abid has effortlessly assimilated into the culture and ethos of Wipro. The new structure will ensure smooth transition and will build on the solid foundation we have developed to drive superior growth and profitability," chairman Azim Premji said in a statement.
Mr Kurien will continue to report to Mr Premji and will remain a member of the board until March 31, 2017, the statement by India's third largest outsourcer added.
