Why your CNG-fitted car may soon be refused filling

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicles in national capital and adjoining cities will be refused filling if they don't have a compliance plate indicating valid cylinder, Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the sole supplier of CNG has said.

"IGL would be refusing CNG dispensing to all categories of vehicles without a compliance plate indicating valid CNG cylinder with effect from August 1, 2013," the company said.

The safety norms for CNG vehicles prescribe that compliance plate displaying kit related information should be installed near the filling point so that it is clearly visible to the refueller.

Earlier, IGL had announced it will implement the drive with effect from June 1, 2013 and had undertaken a media campaign to that effect from last month.

"However, subsequent to the public notice dated May 22 issued by Transport Department, Government of Delhi, IGL has now decided to extend the date of implementation of instructions by two months to ensure uniformity," it said.

As per the public notice of Transport Department, all the CNG vehicle owners have been asked to get the compliance plates fitted by July 31 from the concerned authorised retro fitment Centres without any extra cost, since compliance plate is part of the CNG kit.

Thereafter, the fuelling agencies have been asked to check compliance plates before refuelling.

"IGL has requested all concerned for co-operation in complying with the prescribed requirement as this is directed towards ensuring safety of general public," the statement said.

In order to disseminate the information, IGL said it has already put up posters in this regard at all CNG filling stations, handed pamphlets conveying the message to all CNG car drivers in person, pasted stickers on windshields and run radio spots on leading FM channels.

IGL sells CNG to automobile from 287 stations in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. IGL is supplying PNG to nearly 390,000 households in Delhi and NCR towns.
