Wholesale Inflation Eases To 3.15% In November

The wholesale price inflation or WPI for the month of November cooled down to 3.15 per cent as compared to 3.39 per cent in October. In November last year, the wholesale inflation had contracted by 2.04 per cent.

According to government data, the index for primary articles declined by 0.9 per cent to 259.4 from 261.8 for the previous month. Food inflation declined to 1.25 per cent from 3.31 per cent due to demonetisation-enforced cash crunch.The index for fuel and power, with weight of 14.91 per cent, rose by 1.8 per cent.

In food products, cereals saw an increase in inflation from 6.13 per cent to 7.32 per cent.

Demonetisation of high denomination currency notes affected the price of perishables in the country. As a result, vegetable prices crashed by 24.10 per cent in November compared with a decline of 9.97 per cent in October.
