Enrolment for an obtaining an Aadhaar number or updates in details given on the biometrics-based identity take up to 90 days for completion. This was said by UIDAI or Unique Identification Authority of India, which issues the 12-digit Aadhaar card, on microblogging site Twitter. Aadhaar is now mandatory for many essential tasks such as filing of income tax returns (ITRs). It is, therefore, paramount for Aadhaar holders to check and ensure that their details fed into the Aadhaar database are accurate. How can you check the status of your Aadhaar updation request?

 Among several online tools provided by the UIDAI on its Self-Service Update portal - uidai.gov.in - is a facility that enables Aadhaar holders to check the status of their application to make changes to their basic Aadhaar details. Called 'Check Status-Updation done Online', this feature on the UIDAI website allows users to check the status of their application.

The UIDAI accepts requests for changes to such details - name, address, gender, date of birth, mobile number and/or email ID - online through its portal. Aadhaar card changes other than name, address, gender, DoB, mobile and email can be requested by visiting Aadhaar Enrollment or Aadhaar Update Centres, according to the UIDAI website.

How to check Aadhaar card update request status


Once on the UIDAI website, find and click on the 'Check Status-Updation done Online' tool. Users may proceed by entering their Aadhaar card number on the next page to receive an OTP or One-Time PIN on their registered mobile number. Those not having possession of their mobile number registered with Aadhaar or those not having a mobile number registered with Aadhaar "will have to visit nearest Update Centre", the UIDAI portal noted.

Once on the 'Aadhaar Self-Service Update Portal' page, enter your Aadhaar number, the URN or Update Request Number - issued by the UIDAI portal at the time of submission of updation application and Text Verification code in the specified fields.

Click on 'Get Status'.

In case of a request in process, the next page displays the message: "Please check again after few days."

"Please wait for the set time period before placing any query/complaint regarding this on website uidai.gov.in, toll free number 1947 and social media," the UIDAI added in its Twitter post.
