Tata Motors Rolls Out 123 Buses in Ahmedabad

New Delhi: Automobile manufacturer Tata Motors on Friday flagged off the first batch of 123 AC buses equipped with automatic transmission in Ahmedabad under the second phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

According to the company, it has bagged orders for 3,200 buses under JNNURM-phase II scheme.

"These AC buses with automatic transmission are most suitable for BRTS operations and have been developed for the first time for Janmarg," Tata Motors vice president-defence and government business Vernon Noronha said.

"Automatic transmission in buses will reduce driver fatigue, improve acceleration, manoeuvrability and overall passenger comfort and experience, and more revenue earnings per bus."

The new buses are built by the company's joint venture (JV) Tata Marcopolo and are being operated by private operators.

As of 3:14 p.m., shares in Tata Motors were trading at Rs 484.50 apiece on the BSE, down 0.20 per cent from the previous close.
