வெளிநாட்டில் இருந்து இறக்குமதி செய்யப்படும் 19 பொருட்களுக்கான வரியை மத்திய அரசு அதிரடியாக உயர்த்தியுள்ளது. இதனால் அவற்றின் விலை உயரும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. விமான எரிபொருள், டிவி, ஃப்ரிட்ஜ், ஏ.சி., ஸ்பீக்கர் உள்ளிட்டவை இந்த 19 பொருட்களில் அடங்கும்.
புதிதாக மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்ட இறக்குமதி வரி இன்றிரவு முதல் நடைமுறைக்கு வரும் என்று அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். நடப்பு கணக்கு பற்றாக்குறையை சரி செய்வதற்காக அத்தியாவசிய தேவையற்ற பொருட்களின் இறக்குமதியை கட்டுப்படுத்த மத்திய அரசு திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. அதன் ஒரு பகுதியாக இந்த நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது.
கடந்த 2017-18-ல் இவ்வாறாக இறக்குமதி செய்யப்பட்ட பொருட்களின் விலை ரூ. 86 ஆயிரம் கோடி என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
