Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is India's largest oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It is a public sector undertaking of the Government of India and is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It produces around 77 per cent of India's crude oil and around 62 per cent of natural gas. The company's oil and gas reserves are located internationally at Russia, Colombia, Vietnam, Brazil and Venezuela. In FY17, ONGC reported a net profit of Rs 17,900 crore and revenue of nearly Rs 77,908 crore.

History
ONGC was founded on August 14, 1956 by Government of India. ONGC became a publicly held company in February 1994, with 20 per cent of its equity were sold to the public and eighty percent retained by the Indian government.
BackgroundThe Company's business spread include various areas, such as oil field services, transportation of the oil and natural gas, and production of value-added products, such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Naphtha, Refining, Petrochemicals, Power, unconventional and alternate sources of energy.
ONGC was ranked 3rd in the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's biggest corporations for the year 2015. It is ranked 1st among the Top 250 Global Energy Companies by Platts.
The Company's subsidiaries include ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited.
