Emami Limited is one of the leading and fastest growing personal and healthcare businesses in India, with an enviable portfolio of  household brand names such as BoroPlus, Navratna, Fair and Handsome, Zandu Balm, Mentho Plus Balm and Fast Relief.

Established in 1974, it has a portfolio of over 250 products based on ayurvedic formulations. Its current operations comprise more than 61 countries including GCC, Europe, Africa,  CIS countries and the SAARC. Over 100 Emami products are sold every second somewhere around the world. Emami acquired the heritage brand Zandu on the basis of huge business synergy between the two brand portfolios.

The company manufactures products under various categories namely Hair Care, Skin Creams and Lotions, Talcum Powder and ayurvedic health care products.

Company’s research and development centre is spread over on 20,000 Sq. feet of land, equipped with state of art technologies and has a workforce of highly qualified and respected scientists and ayurvedic doctors.

The company reach out to 40 lakh retails outlets through a network of 3000 distributors and have invested in seven plants , four regional offices, 1 overseas unit,  five overseas subsidiaries and 32 distribution centres across India.

Emami has received ISO 9001:2000 certification for its quality management.

History

Started by Mr. R.S. Agarwal and Mr. R.S. Goenka in 1974 a medicine and cosmetic manufacturing facility was set up. The company was set up with a seed capital of Rs 20,000. The company gradually created brands under medicine and cosmetics segment. Emami Talcum, Emami Vanishing Cream and Emami Cold Cream were great favorite brands with the quality conscious consumers in the mid–seventies.

In 1978, Himani became a sick unit and Mr. Agarwal decided to purchase this company. The company decided to use this sick unit to produce different types of health care items and toiletries based on Ayurvedic preparation. A decade later the company launched its first flagship brands Boroplus Antiseptic Cream under Himani. Currently Boroplus is one of the largest selling Antiseptic Cream in India and which also has presence in Russia, Ukraine, and Nepal.

The company started selling is product on pan–India level. In 1995, Kemco Chemicals became a Public Limited Company and name was changed to Emami. Later in 1998 two companies namely Emami and Himani were merged into one to form Emami.

In 2005, the company launched its product Fair and Handsome which was India’s the first fairness cream for men. Later the company decided to venture into health care division. This division created brands like Navratna, Sona Chandi Chyawanprash, Menthoplus and Fast Relief.

In 2006, J B Marketing & Finance formerly known as marketing company of the Emami Group merged with Emami.

Looking at potential in Realty business the company ventured into this segment by forming a subsidiary company namely Emami Realty in 2007.

In 2011 Emami acquired skincare technology

In 2012 Brand Equity Most Trusted Brand 2012 have ranked Emami power brands Zandu balm, Fair and Handsome, Boroplus and Navratna among the top brands in the country.
Emami relaunches its Fast Relief Brand.
