Sensex trims early gains on profit-booking, still up 52 points

The BSE Sensex pared initial gains today on slight profit booking in select FMCG and Consumer durable shares, but was still trading on higher amid positive buying in heavy weights on the back of firm Asian cues.

The 30-share index resumed firm at Rs 19,770.21 and moved in range of Rs 19,808.06 and Rs 19,765.66 quoting at Rs 19,794.47 at 10.30 a.m up by 51.95 points, 0.26 per cent from its previous close.

The NSE 50-stock index Nifty was also trading higher by 9.75 points or 0.16 per cent at Rs 6,011.45 at 10.30 a.m. Major gainers were -Tata Motors (4.41 per cent), Gail (1.50per cent), Cipla (1.33 per cent),  Bharti Airtel (1.17 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.16 per cent).

Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) had bought shares worth Rs 887.38 crore yesterday, as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

Asian stocks were trading positive in early trade, with key indices in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan, trading 0.07-0.49 per cent on good highly optimistic US earning data.
