The S&P BSE Sensex closed slightly lower, down 16 points, at 33,603 points on Wednesday, while NSE Nifty50 closed 9 points lower at 10,361 points. During the day, Sensex rose to 33,729 points (110 points higher) during the intraday trading, and slipped to the lowest intraday level of 33,553 points (65 points lower than Tuesday's closing). NSE Nifty, on the other hand, rose to 10, 393 (23 points higher) during the intraday trading and fell to 10,346 (24 points lower) before closing at 10,361 points.
Major gainers of the day were Hathway Cable & Datacom, Sobha and Religare Enterprises that posted gains to the tune of 8% to 10%.
Major losers of the day were RTN Power, Reliance Communications (RCom) and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and DCB Bank that posted losses to the tune of 3% to 4%.
Among Sensex stocks, the stocks that drove the fall were Axis Bank (fell by 2.32%), Asian Paints (fell by 1.53%), HDFC (fell by 1.43%) and Dr Reddy's (fell by 1.23%).
The top gainers amongst the 30-share benchmark index were Wipro, Adani Ports and Hindustan Unilever that rose by nearly 1%.
The top gainers among sectoral indices were BSE realty (0.7%), BSE telecom (0.49%) and BSE consumer durables (0.59%). The top losers among the sectoral indices were BSE metal index (0.55%), BSE basic materials (0.36%) and BSE utilities (0.34%).
