Sensex jumps 100 points as Obama re-elected

The BSE Sensex firmed up after a cautious start on Wednesday as television networks projected that President Barack Obama has won re-election as U.S. president. The Sensex traded 92 points or 0.5 per cent higher at 18,909 while the broader Nifty benchmark gained 26 points to 5,750.

At 09.55 a.m., the rupee traded at 54.12 versus its previous close of 54.43/44, tracking the dollar's losses versus most other Asian currencies.

The dollar fell against the yen in Asia on Wednesday as traders bet U.S. President Barack Obama has a slight edge over his challenger Mitt Romney in a close-fought election.
