Condolences have since started pouring in from people from all walks of life - including politicians, industrialists, socialites, activists and journalists.
Considered a visionary of the Indian two-wheeler industry - Mr Munjal started out with a bicycle business in the 1940s that he ran with his brothers- and turned it in to one of the largest business groups in the country.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, along with others from the government took to micro-blogging site Twitter to pay their respects.

Industry bodies issued statements mourning the loss of the pioneer, remembering Mr Munjal for his leadership and contributions to the industry.
"He was fondly known as the father of India's two-wheeler industry," DS Rawat, secretary general of industry body Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India or Assocham said.
Confederation of Indian Industry or CII president Sumit Mazumder called him a father figure who inspired confidence in India.
"He was one of the doyens of Indian Industry and his passing away has left a void, which would be impossible to fill. Brijmohan Lall Ji was a father figure who gave us leadership and confidence in India."
Mr Munjal is survived by three sons and a daughter. He was born in 1923 in Kamalia in present-day Pakistan. Mr Munjal along with his brothers started a small business of manufacturing bicycle components in Ludhiana in the 1940s and the Hero Group officially came into existence in 1956.
Mr Munjal received the 'Padma Bhushan' in 2005 in recognition of his contributions in the field of trade and industry.
While Hero MotoCorp is the world's largest two-wheeler company, Hero Cycles has been the largest manufacturer of bicycles since 1986.
