Reliance Communications raises 3G internet rate by 26%

Telecom operator Reliance Communications has increased 3G mobile internet rates by 26 per cent and reduced benefit on internet packages by up to 60 per cent.

Subscribers will now have to pay Rs 156 for 1 GB of 3G usage as against Rs 123 earlier. The Rs 123 mobile internet pack on RCom's 3G network will now offer only 400 MB of internet surfing, a reduction of  about 60 per cent.

Similarly, 3G mobile internet packs of Rs 246 and Rs 492 will now come with reduced usage limit.

For the quarter ended September 30, RCom had 9.1 million 3G customers out of 116 million mobile subscriber base on its network.

The increased 3G mobile internet rates by RCom are at par with 2G mobile internet rates of Airtel, Idea and Vodafone.

RCom has rolled-out 3G services in all the 13 circles covering over 333 towns.

RCom shares traded down 2.5 per cent at Rs 138.80 on the BSE as of 03.02 p.m. In contrast, the Sensex traded 0.3 per cent lower at 20,837 as of 3 .02 p.m.
