Petrol Prices Steady After Five Days Of Hike, Check Rates Here

Petrol and diesel prices were kept unchanged at existing rates on Thursday, following five consecutive days of hike in petrol rates and two consecutive days of rise in diesel prices. In Delhi, the price of petrol stood at Rs 73.30 per litre and diesel at Rs 65.79 per litre on Thursday - the same levels as the previous day, according to notifications from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). In Mumbai, the price of petrol and diesel was Rs 78.97 per litre and Rs 69.01 per litre respectively.

Currently, the prices of petrol and diesel are reviewed by oil marketing companies such as state-run Indian Oil on a daily basis, and any revisions are implemented at fuel stations with effect from 6 am.

The domestic fuel prices are determined broadly by the foreign exchange rates and the global crude oil prices.

The rupee fell by as much as 32 paise against the US dollar on Thursday. After opening lower at 71.77 against the greenback, the rupee plunged to as much as 71.78 by afternoon deals. At 12:32 pm, the rupee traded at 71.69 against the US currency, down 23 paise from its previous close of 71.46.

Globally, oil prices dipped on Wednesday as prospects for a trade deal between the United States and China dimmed, weighing on the outlook for the global economy and energy demand. Brent crude futures - the global benchmark - was last seen 0.3 per cent down at $61.88 a barrel.
