Decentraland's Metaverse Fashion Week saw a slew of international brands embrace the virtual world in a four-day event, which included shows, panel discussions, shopping opportunities, and even after-parties. Selfridges, Bulova, Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Forever 21, DKNY, and Estee Lauder were among the mega brands that participated in the first Metaverse Fashion Week that took place in the virtual world of Decentraland from March 24 to 27.

The occasion was not only a watershed moment in the world of fashion but also a cornerstone for the metaverse's concept and everything it will become in the future.

Decentraland began as a pixelated 2D grid before developing into a 3D cosmos, and it is based on the Ethereum network.

For many people, the metaverse is still unexplored ground. However, with an ever-increasing list of cultural events taking place in the virtual domain, full immersion seems likely soon. There was no need for an invitation or travel arrangements for the Metaverse Fashion Week. A laptop browser was all that was required for anyone interested in watching the event unfold.

The fashion week was open to everyone on Decentraland and was a completely free event where guests could purchase NFTs from the fashion brands using MANA, the platform's native decentralised coin. According to Decentraland, “everyone's a VIP in the metaverse”.

Over 60 brands took part in the fashion week. The after-parties and presence of well-known artists were among the highlights of the event. To take a look at the various events that took place over the course of the four days, check out the Metaverse Fashion Week event page.

These events included a mix of NFT wearables for customising one's avatar in Metaverse Decentraland and limited-edition physical pieces redeemable via NFTs — both of which could only be purchased with cryptocurrencies. The physical pieces were available only on Decentraland.

During the event, Selfridges teamed up with Fondation Vasarely and Paco Rabanne to open a virtual shop in Decentraland. The launch is inspired by Selfridges' Birmingham store and included a variety of immersive experiences.

Dolce & Gabbana debuted a collection of cat-themed designs. The models strutted the virtual ramp amidst what appeared to be a galactic discotheque, wearing distinctive D&G apparel.

Estee Lauder launched an NFT wearable based on its Advanced Night Repair solution.

Tommy Hilfiger presented its spring 2022 collection virtually and launched a digital store where visitors could purchase NFTs from the label.

UNXD and Decentraland Foundation launched a brand-new Luxury District. The main catwalk for the fashion week was held in the Luxury District every day.

Sophia, the world-famous humanoid robot, was a star attraction at the fashion week. Sophia was spotted at many places in the Decentraland universe, particularly the fashion week locations.

At the conclusion event, singer-songwriter Claire Elise Boucher, better known as Grimes, wowed the crowd with an electric DJ set. Grimes' digital avatar, a woman with two white ponytails, was seen dancing.
