Maruti Suzuki sales slip 3% in April 2013, no buyers for Kizashi sedan

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, today reported a 3.1 per cent decline in total sales in April 2013 at 97,302 units. The company had sold 1,00,415 units in April 2012.

For April 2013, domestic sales amounted to 90,523 units, a marginal rise over the 90,255 units it sold in April 2012, the company said in a statement.

Maruti's exports last month fell 33.28 per cent to 6,779 units from 10,160 units in the year-ago period.

However, sales of the mini segment cars -- including M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR -- rose by 13.69 per cent to 34,927 units from 30,720 units in April 2012.

The compact segment (comprising the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models) slid 17.40 per cent to 21,535 units against 26,072 units in the same month a year ago.

Sales of the DZiRE model rose 25.38 per cent to 19,446 units from 15,510 units in the year-ago period, while the company sold 601 units of mid-sized sedan SX4 compared to 634 units in April 2012, a decline of 5.21 per cent.

Luxury sedan Kizashi had no buyer last month compared to three in April 2012.

Sales of utility vehicles fell 4.92 per cent to 5,318 units from 5,593 units in April 2012. Van sales slipped 25.82 per cent to 8,696 units from 11,723 units in the year-ago period.

Total sales of passenger cars rose 4.89 per cent year on year to 76,509 units in April from 72,939 units.
