Non-Subsidised LPG Prices Hiked By Up To Rs 76.5/Cylinder This Month

Non-subsidised LPG prices were increased across metros from November 1, marking a third straight month of upwards reduction. The hike in the rates of LPG is to the tune of Rs 76-76.5 per cylinder (14.2 kilograms) in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, according to Indian Oil Corporation, which supplies cooking gas under brand Indane. After the latest hike, the price of non-subsidised LPG stands at Rs 681.50 per cylinder in Delhi and Rs 651 per cylinder in Mumbai. That marks a hike of Rs 76.5 per cylinder each in Delhi and Mumbai. 

In Kolkata and Chennai, the rates are Rs 706 a cylinder and Rs 696 a cylinder respectively. 

The prices of 19-kilogram cylinders have been revised to Rs 1,204 per cylinder in Delhi and Rs 1,151.50 per cylinder in Mumbai.

Currently, the government subsidises 12 cylinders of 14.2 kilograms each per household per year. For any additional purchases, the consumer has to bear the market price. The amount of subsidy provided by the government on the quota of 12 cylinders per year  varies from month to month.

Factors such as changes in the average international benchmark LPG prices and foreign exchange rates determine the amount of subsidy.

In October, the prices of LPG in metros were hiked to the tune of Rs 12.5-15 per cylinder of 14.2 kilograms compared with the previous month. 

The LPG prices have been increased by a cumulative Rs 107 per cylinder (18.62 per cent) in Delhi and and Rs 105 per cylinder (19.12 per cent) in Mumbai since August.
