Sensex Rises Over 600 Points, Nifty Settles At 11,313: Highlights

Domestic stock markets registered sharp gains on Wednesday, snapping six days losing streak. After starting the session with a gain of 96.07 points at 37,628.05, the S&P BSE Sensex index rose as much as 677.86 points to touch 38,209.84 at the day's strong level. The broader NSE Nifty benchmark rose to as much as 11,321.60, up 195.2 points from the previous close. Gains across sectors except IT - led by banking and auto shares - pushed the markets higher. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank contributed a total 357.77 points to the surge in Sensex.

Sensex, Nifty End Higher After Sixth Straight Session Of Losses
The Sensex ends 645.97 points - or 1.72 per cent up - at 38,177.95 and the broader NSE Nifty index settled at 11,313.30, up 186.90 points - or 1.68 per cent - from its previous close. Top percentage gainers on the 50-scrip index were IndusInd Bank, Bharti Infratel, Bharti Airtel and SBI, ending between 5.10 per cent and 5.52 per cent higher.

Shares of the road developer - Ashoka  Buldcon rose as much as 2 per cent to Rs 99.25 after the company informed exchanges that it won an order worth Rs 313.72 crore.

Ashoka Buildcon won an order from  SRIT India Private Limited, for Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited, Smart Infrastructure Project viz. 'Conducting survey, supply of poles & installation, laying of the overhead and underground Optic Fiber Cable, on existing electricity poles, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of non-IT items.'

Nifty Bank Index Extends Gainsa, Surges Over 500 Points
Gauge of banking shares on the National Stock Exchange extended gains led by buying interest in Indusind Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bank of Baroda. The Nifty Bank index surged as much as 535 points to 28,238.00.

Nifty PSU Bank index also recovered from intraday low levels and Nifty Privat benk index was up 1.63 per cent.

Jaguar Land Rover Sales Decline In September Quarter
Jaguar Land Rover retail sales for the quarter ending September 30, 2019 were 128,953 vehicles, slightly down (-0.7 per cent) compared to the same period a year ago, the company said in a stock exchange filing.

These results reflect an encouraging recovery of Jaguar Land Rover retail sales in China (up 24.3 per cent), with a third consecutive month of double-digit sales growth for the company in the region. Sales were also up slightly in Europe (+0.9 per cent), offset by lower sales in the US (-1.0 per cent), UK (-5.1 per cent) and in Overseas markets (-19.2 per cent). 

Retail sales of the Range Rover Evoque continued to grow (+54.6 per cent) with sales of the all-new model only just starting in China. Sales were also up strongly for the Range Rover Sport (+17.5 per cent) and Jaguar I-PACE (sales of 3,666 units, up 2,593 units). Models with lower year-on-year figures include the Land Rover Discovery Sport with sales of the new mid-cycle refreshed model still ramping up and sales in China only starting later in the year.
