ITR Filing Deadline Extended For Kerala: Here Are 5 Latest Developments

Kerala Floods: Insurance companies have also started processing flood related claims.

Kerala floods: The due date for filing income tax return (ITR) for assessees in Kerala has been extended to September 15 on account of devastating floods. The heavy rains and subsequent floods have led to destruction of life and property in the state, reported news agency Press Trust of India (PTI). The new deadline of September 15, the CBDT said in its statement, is applicable to taxpayers in Kerala who were "liable to file their Income Tax Returns by 31st August, 2018".CBDT had earlier extended the 'due date' for filing of income tax returns from July 31 to August 31, this year for salaried employees, which has now been extended by 15 days.
Here are 5 latest developments:
  1. According to a report of IANS, various relief measures pertaining to re-opening of all submerged, flood affected bank branches and ATMs, exchange of soiled, mutilated, defective currency and extension of loan repayment period have already been initiated by the banks in the state.
  2. Insurance companies have also started processing flood related claims to ensure expeditious settlement, said Finance Ministry.
  3. They have established special camp offices, deployed additional surveyors and waived document requirements for speedier claims payment so that quick relief is ensured to the affected people.
  4. The delegation would comprise of senior officers from the central government, CMDs of public sector banks and insurance companies including state-run Agriculture Insurance Co (AIC) and rural development lender NABARD.
  5. Earlier, basic customs duty and Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) was exempted for the goods imported or supplied for flood relief operations in Kerala. (With agencies inputs)
