Jet Airways Enters Into Code-share Pact With Vietnam Airlines

Mumbai: Jet Airways on Tuesday announced it has entered into a reciprocal code-share pact with Vietnam's national carrier, Vietnam Airlines.

The code-sharing would provide more choice for air travellers between India and Vietnam, with convenient connections over international gateways of Singapore and Bangkok, private carrier Jet said in a release.

Code-sharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to multiple destinations where it has no presence.

Jet Airways has already announced that it would launch an air service to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam from Delhi via Bangkok.

"In the coming year, the company will continue to roll out new non-stop frequencies between India and markets such as Doha, Dubai, Colombo, Bangkok and start services to new markets such as Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam," Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal said in the company's annual report, ahead of its annual general meeting (AGM) slated for next week.

Under the code-share arrangement, Jet Airways will place its marketing code on Vietnam Airlines' flights from Bangkok and Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. In turn, Vietnam Airlines will place its marketing code on Jet Airways' services between Bangkok and Mumbai/Delhi, from Singapore to Mumbai/Delhi and Chennai, it said.

The code-share flights are already on sale from August 1 for travel, starting from August 4, it said.

With the commencement of Jet Airways' Ho Chi Minh City service, from November 5, Vietnam Airlines would place its marketing code on Jet Airways' Bangkok/Ho Chi Minh route, as per the code-share agreement, the release said.

"We are delighted to announce a code-share partnership with Vietnam Airlines as it will further strengthen the international reach of both airlines and provide increased benefits to all our guests. We are confident that this partnership will further increase the demand for business and tourist travel between India and Vietnam," Jet Airways senior vice president (commercial) Gaurang Shetty said.

"We are delighted to conclude a code-share agreement with Jet Airways. We shall make all possible effort to maximise opportunities offered to our combined network to bring the most convenience to our valued customers who travel from India to Vietnam via Bangkok/Singapore and vice versa," Vietnam Airlines vice president Duong Tri Thanh said in the release.

Headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam Airlines operates 95 routes to 21 domestic and 29 international destinations with more than 300 daily flights.
