India needs no big announcements now on planning fronts. It needs to implement carefully what has been planned earlier. This is what Arun Maira has concluded after a documented interaction with more than 10 lakh citizens across the country through different government agencies and NGOs.

However, Maira thinks  that Indian scenario is that of policies muddling along, people are banging their heads to each other. Maira counts it as a scenario, if not changed, can cost the country a great deal.

Maira , who is a Planning Commission Member and former Chairman of Boston Consulting Group, also shared his thoughts  with students from Delhi on NDTV Profit’s Money Mantra show.

When asked by a student what the new finance minister, that is prime minister, should do as a priority, Maira replied “send some coal to power plants”. He also suggested that as finance minister, Mr Singh would need to announce some concrete steps against corruption.

While explaining the rupee’s slide to a commerce student, Maira agreed that India could utilise the current value of rupee to its favour only if it supported its manufacturing industry just as China has helped its exports for years. “India is like a lake with several boats in it floating in different direction and reaching nowhere.” Maira added.
