Two leading telecom operators on Tuesday filed clarificatory petitions in the Supreme Court regarding the apex court’s decision earlier this month cancelling 122 licences.

Idea Cellular, part of the Aditya Birla group, and Videocon both sought clarifications from the SC whether the order was applicable to them. In its petition, Idea , whose nine licences were cancelled, claimed that it had applied for the 2G licences before other operators. Videocon lost 21 licences on account of the order.

On 02, February, the Supreme Court cancelled 122 lincences of various mobile phone services providers on the ground. The apex court said at that the time that the change in lincensing procedure from an auction route to a first-come first-served one was discriminatory to some firms.

Shares of Idea Cellular jumped on the news. At 1525, Idea stocks traded 2.4 per cent higher at Rs 93.25 on the BSE.
