The new deadline now is December 31. Earlier, this deadline was August 31. Linking of Aadhaar with PAN is mandatory for processing of income tax returns (ITRs), the Income Tax Department has said. "If this linking (PAN-Aadhaar) is skipped, the return could be considered invalid and the person may have to file it again which shall be considered belated and may attract penalty, interest and other consequences like disallowances for losses.
For linking aadhaar with PAN, an assesse should access https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/LinkAadhaarPrelogin.html.
The system asks for four details, namely, name, aadhaar, PAN and captcha code. After feeding in these details, click on 'Link Aadhaar' button to proceed.
An OTP or one-time-password will be sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar. The aadhaar card will be linked to PAN card.
