New Delhi: The Finance Ministry has decided to invite suggestions from the public for Budget 2016-17 in its bid to make the exercise more broad-based.

The suggestions can be posted on the MyGov portal.

"The Ministry of Finance has decided to invite suggestions for the Budget from the general public... in order to infuse more transparency into the Budget-making exercise and to have people as partners in the process of Budget-making," it said in a statement.

The preparations for the next budget have already started.

In run-up to the budget, the government holds discussions with various stakeholders like trade unions, economists, industry representatives and social sector activists.

The annual financial statement, which lays out the government's taxation proposals and expenditure plans for the fiscal year, is generally presented on the last working day of February.
