Federal Bank appoints Abraham Koshy as part-time chairman

Private sector lender Federal Bank on Tuesday said it has appointed Abraham Koshy as its part time chairman.

"RBI has given its approval on December 2 to appoint Abraham Koshy, who is already a Director of the bank, as part-time chairman of the bank for a period of two years or till the date of his retirement whichever is earlier," the bank said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Mr Koshy joined the board of the bank in May, 2007, as an independent director, the company said in a release.

He is a member of the Advisory Committee for Investor Protection and Education Fund of market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) and the trustee member of the Consumer Education and Research Centre, Ahmedabad, besides being on the board of various companies, it said.

Mr Koshy started his career in 1976 with Union Bank of India and after a short stint there, he opted for academics and joined the School of Management Studies at Cochin University, it said.

Since 1989, he is serving as professor of marketing at IIM-Ahmadabad, the release also noted.

A Post Graduate in Business Administration from Cochin University, Mr Koshy took his doctoral degree with specialisation in marketing from the IIM- Ahmedabad.
