Delhi Tops Global List of Cities with Best Value 5-Star Hotels

Mumbai: Delhi has topped a global list of cities with the best value on 5-star hotels, offering an average price of Rs 9,433 a night to Indian travellers in the first half of 2015, according to a survey.

The national capital is followed by Mumbai, providing the best deal on 5-star accommodation to travellers with Rs 9,638 per night, according to the latest Hotels.com 'Hotel Price Index' (HPI) report.

The HPI is a regular report on hotel prices paid in major destinations across the world. It tracks the movement in prices that people actually paid for their accommodation and provides insight into the reasons behind these changes.

The data is drawn from bookings made on the thousands of hotels on Hotels.com websites worldwide.

Germany's capital Berlin was the third best with Rs 10,316 per night, while Istanbul in Turkey was at fourth place with Rs 10,812.

Bangkok (Thailand's capital) was ranked fifth at Rs 11,249.

When it comes to best deals on 4-star hotels, Jakarta (Indonesia's capital) offered the best price with Rs 5,662 a night, followed by Delhi at Rs 5,884.

Bangkok ranked third with Rs 6,116, while Budapest (Hungary's capital) with Rs 6,893 and Mumbai with Rs 7,000 were at the fourth and fifth places, respectively.

It was still less expensive to stay in a 4-star hotel in Mumbai than a 3-star property in 28 of the most popular destinations like Hong Kong, London or Sydney, the report said.

It was even cheaper than a 2-star in London, Rome and Amsterdam, it added.

The report also revealed the top 10 cities where Indian travellers paid the most for 5-star hotels in the first half of 2015.

At the top of the list with Rs 29,958 was London (UK), followed by Paris (France) at Rs 27,233.

Milan in Italy stood at the third place with Rs 25,062 while New York (US) ranked fourth with Rs 24,607 and Rome came in fifth with Rs 23,712.
