CCD to take over franchisee-run 'xpress' kiosks

Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) is in the process of converting its franchisee-run 'xpress' outlets into company-owned kiosks with a view to have better control over them and says it will add up to 250 new retail points each year in this format.

Out of the 900 'xpress' kiosks that offer coffee and a limited food menu at locations such as offices, hospitals and education institutes, around 250 are currently operated by franchisees.

"We had franchised out a lot of 'xpress' outlets. But now, we are converting all of them into company-owned," CCD Xpress President Puttaraj A G told PTI.

He said the company currently has 900 xpress outlets across India and plans to add 200-250 new ones every year.

Having served coffee at high street outlets, malls and corporate offices, retail chain CCD has also launched new coffee-making machines targeting households in the country.

"With the new machines, we intend to reach out to coffee lovers in their homes. Our target customers will be people who have had CCD experience at their offices and retail outlets," Puttaraj A G said.

Besides the small xpress outlets, CCD also operates over 1,200 big format stores and lounges in 175 cities across India.

"Our target is to have a total of 2,000 outlets and lounges by 2014," CCD President (Marketing) Ramakrishnan K said.
