Ashok Leyland Bags Order to Supply 2,200 Buses to Sri Lanka

Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland has received an order for supplying 2,200 buses to Sri Lanka.

The company said it will supply the buses within the next six months.

This is the one of the largest purchases by the Sri Lankan Transport Board (SLTB), as the government aims to modernise its existing fleet and significantly improve the country's public transport network, Ashok Leyland said in a statement.

"Ashok Leyland will supply these 2,200 buses within the next six months. With this latest order, the company reinforces its position as the market leader in Sri Lanka and as an important stakeholder in Sri Lankan transport," it added.

"This is a huge order especially at a time when the domestic market is just about to bounce back. This order reaffirms our strategy to substantially enhance our sales outside India," Ashok Leyland managing director Vinod K Dasari said.

Shares in Ashok Leyland, on Friday, ended at Rs 32.95 apiece on the BSE, down 2.37 per cent from the previous close.
