After the arrest of his son-in-law for allegedly betting in the on-going edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), pressure is mounting on BCCI chief N Srinivasan to step down.
Speaking to NDTV, Mr Srinivasan said this is an attempt to target him through his son-in-law. "I have done nothing wrong. There is no question of my resigning. My conscience is clear," he said.
Gurunath Meiyappan, Mr Srinivasan's son-in-law, was arrested late on Friday night after being questioned by the Mumbai Police for nearly two hours. He flew to Mumbai from Madurai after being summoned by the Mumbai Police following statements made by small-time actor Vindoo Dara Singh.
Vindoo, who was arrested earlier this week for his alleged links with bookies, has told the Mumbai Police that he bet on games on Mr Meiyappan's behalf, claim sources. Vindoo has also reportedly said that Mr Meiyappan lost Rs. 1 crore in betting.
Mr Srinivasan has denied having any knowledge of his son-in-law's alleged betting activities.
Mr Srinivasan, apart from being BCCI president is the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of India Cements, which owns Chennai Super Kings.
Sources in the Chennai Super Kings have claimed that Mr Meiyappan is not part of the Indian Premier League franchise. India Cements, the owner of the Chennai Super Kings, has issued a statement clarifying that Gurunath Meiyappan is only an honorary member of CSK, not owner. (
