Second runway opened at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
Hyderabad: Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao Group, which operates the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here, said the second runway at the airport was inaugurated today after a successful completion of the trial run.

The new parallel runway, 3.707 kilometre long, is Code-E aircraft (such as A340/B747) compliant. The first runway is4.26 kilometre long.

"Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao Hyderabad International Airport Limited, the operator of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has obtained clearances by Directorate of General and Civil Aviation in order to make this runway operational, making it the first greenfield airport in the region with two active runways," an official statement said.

Hyderabad Airport has now an edge over other airports in terms of runway maintenance, according to industry experts.

With the activation of runway,  Rajiv Gandhi International Airport can now continue flight operations uninterruptedly during the regular main runway maintenance of Tuesdays, the statement added.

Indigo airlines flight 6E 315 from Chennai was the first aircraft to land on this runway at 14.07 hours.
