5 Children Dead After Heavy Rain in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa

Chittoor, Kadapa, Nellore and Prakasam are among the worst-hit districts in the state.

As heavy rains continued to batter Andhra Pradesh, 5 children reportedly died in different rain-related incidents in Kadapa district.

In first incident, a five-year-old boy died after wall collapse at Lakshimigari Palli village in Railway Kodur mandal in the morning today.

Yesterday, in a separate incident, four children died when roof of an old building collapsed at Boyapalli in Sambepalli mandal.

The incident happened when children were playing in the disused house.

Mandal Revenue Officer Chandramma and police sub-inspector Raghuram were supervising the debris removal operation.

Heavy rains triggered by the north east monsoon continue to lash several districts of Andhra Pradesh flooding low-lying areas.

Chittoor, Kadapa, Nellore and Prakasam are among the worst-hit districts in the state.

Officials said 14,000 people were shifted to relief camps in Nellore and Chittoor districts.

Flash floods also claimed the lives of 80 cattle and damaged 80 houses. For the second day, all educational institutions in Chittoor district remained closed.

Railways have cancelled several trains between Nellore, Tirupati and Chennai as tracks were submerged at a few places.

With the Met office forecasting more rains over the next two days, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to be on alert and take all measures to prevent loss of lives.
