A Class 9 student was allegedly attacked by her school teacher in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district early this morning. The 25-year-old teacher went to her home and allegedly tried to slit her throat with a blade for rejecting his advances.
Later, Shankar, who teaches Hindi at Rockwell High School in Bangarupeta area of Kurnool district, about 200 kilometre from Hyderabad, slashed his own throat.
Following the incident, the girl was taken to a hospital.
The student had reportedly told her mother about the teacher's unwelcome advances and the mother reportedly had warned Shankar. The girl was alone at home when the incident occured. Shankar had been harassing her for a year, the police said.
The teacher was beaten up by locals who gathered outside the girl's house after the girl screamed for help and handed him over to the police. The accused was reportedly inebriated.
The cops took him to the hospital for treatment.
Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ghanta Srinivas has been reported to have ordered that Shankar be suspended from his duty as a teacher. A case has been filed against him for allegedly trying to kill the girl.
