Agra: Union minister Ram Shankar Katheria had a narrow escape when shots were fired near his official residence during a clash allegedly by activists of  Congress-affiliated NSUI at Dr BR Ambedkar University in Agra.

Mr Katheria, Union minister of state for human resources and local lawmaker, was about to board his vehicle yesterday when the shots were fired allegedly by NSUI activists at an ABVP activist, police said.

Later, a case was registered against five NSUI activists, including university students union president.

An FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Durgesh Thakur, who was attacked at New Agra police station last evening.

Mr Thakur named the university students union president along with four others of the NSUI.

Circle Officer of Hari Parbat police station AJ Singh said that Durgesh Thakur and the NSUI leaders were involved in a dispute during union elections and had clashed earlier as well.

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad has threatened a stir if the culprits were not booked in 24 hours.
