Damascus: Amateur video emerged on Friday which purported to show anti-Assad protesters taking to the streets of Damascus and its suburbs.

On the same day, an explosion ripped through a busy intersection in the Syrian capital, hitting a police bus and killing at least 11 people and possibly many more in an attack that left pools of blood in the streets and marked the second deadly attack in the capital in as many weeks, Syrian authorities said.

A smaller bomb exploded on Friday in Damascus' suburb of Tal, killing a girl. Security experts dismantled another bomb in the same area, said a Syrian official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to speak publicly to the media.

Amateur footage was said to show demonstrators marching in the same suburb and calling on the local residents (Arabic) to "wake up."

More amateur videos purported to show protesters holding banners bearing anti-Assad slogans in another Damascus' suburb, Arbeen and the capital's Al-Assali neighbourhood on Friday.

One banner claimed that the "Assad militia have fired gunshots" before the observers' eyes in Arbeen. Observers visited the suburb on Thursday, according to state TV.

AP cannot independently verify the content, date, location or authenticity of any of the amateur material. Syria has banned most foreign journalists and prevented independent reporting inside the country.

More amateur footage emerged on Friday that was said to show a convoy of trucks carrying army tanks coming from the eastern region of Deir el-Zour. It was unclear where the footage was filmed.

Four protesters were killed in the same region on Thursday, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
