US pressure on Pakistan to bust more Taliban hideouts

New Delhi: US AfPak envoy Marc Grossman and Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Michael Morell are in Pakistan today in order to ease the growing tensions between the two countries after the Osama operation.

The US is reportedly putting pressure on Pakistan to crackdown on some more Taliban hideouts.

The CIA Deputy Director will also met with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. General Ahmed Shuja Pasha.

Their visit comes ahead of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's scheduled visit to Pakistan next week.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the US was engaged with Pakistan to lay the groundwork for Ms. Clinton's visit and she would go to Islamabad when she can hold discussions "in the right context and with the right preparation".

"The Secretary does plan to visit Pakistan in order to have an in-depth strategic discussion about our cooperation and to convey the US Government's views on the way forward in Pakistan," Toner said.

Ms. Clinton also telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari and army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and "talked about a way forward in the relationship", he added. (With PTI Inputs)
