US policy for India on hold due to election

US policy for India on hold due to election
New York:

It's been a week of hectic diplomatic activity for Pakistan. Months ago, Barack Obama was talking about bombing the country. Today, Pakistan is on the verge of receiving billions of dollars in US aid, perhaps even without any requirements to crack down on India-related terrorism.

Meanwhile, US policy on India has been put on hold.

"We look forward to getting the elections behind us and then we will proceed forward," said Senator Kerry, Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

But the administration denies that Pakistan has made valuable headway with the new US government while India's leadership has been busy with the general elections.

"I think you are judging some thing after a couple of months that deserves to be judged after a couple of years. That because we have been respectful to India during its period of general elections means that we have not tried to set out on the same agenda. The fact is that the President and PM Singh have already met and we have already been actively working with India on current issues."

It is not just those in India; even in the US, the administration is waiting and watching for the outcome of the general elections, for then it can begin a new chapter of Indo-US relations, under president Obama and take forward its crucial Pakistan-Afghanistan plan, in which it believes India will have an important role to play.
