Paris:
French authorities have received information on a possible security threat to transport systems, a source close to the interior ministry said on Monday, in the latest in a string of such warnings.
"It's a threat which we think might target transportation," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity and without giving further details except that the warning was received at 5:00am (0300 GMT) on Thursday last week.
The warning is the latest in a series made by French officials over the past 10 days, with Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux warning of having received specific information
about a mounting threat.
Last week five French nationals were among seven foreigners kidnapped by suspected Al-Qaeda militants in a Niger uranium mining town, while in Paris the Eiffel Tower was
evacuated after receiving a hoax bomb warning.
The head of France's DCRI domestic intelligence agency, Bernard Squarcini, said last week that France had never faced a greater "terrorist threat."
International Jihadist militants have issued a number of threats against France in recent months, as various French policies drew their attention.
French troops are fighting in Afghanistan, in July French commandos took part in a raid on an Al-Qaida base in Mali that left seven militants dead and this month French lawmakers
voted to ban women from wearing a full-face veil.
