Terrifying Plane Crash at Atlanta Airshow Caught on Camera

Highlights

  • The plane is seen hitting the ground hard and erupting into flames
  • The pilot, Greg Connell from South Carolina, was killed
  • The video was captured at an air show on May 14 in Atlanta
Extremely shocking footage captured by a family shows the exact moment a plane crashed while performing a stunt at an airshow in USA. The pilot was killed.

The video, captured on May 14 at the annually held Good Neighbor Day Open House Airshow at DeKalb Peachtree Airport in Atlanta, shows the plane suddenly plummeting to the ground. You can even hear the startled sounds of spectators watching the crash unfold right before their eyes.

The footage captured before the crash shows the plane flying low, then in tandem with another plane and eventually soaring higher - and then, it shoots downwards. For a moment, this second dip also seemed like a stunt but then the plane is seen hitting the ground and erupting in flames.

The pilot was later identified as Greg Connell from South Carolina, according to FoxNews. Pilot Gary Ward, who was flying the other plane seen in the video, told Time: "Greg flew underneath me and I had no idea Greg crashed like a second later. So I pulled off and the plan we had. I came back in the show for the next maneuver. We did individual maneuvers at that point, and I went ahead and did my next maneuver, not knowing that Greg had crashed."

It is still unclear exactly what caused the crash.
