Race horse jumps over fence, injures seven
Victoria, Australia: Seven racegoers were severely injured when a horse jumped over a high fence into a crowd of about 50 spectators during the Grand Annual Steeplechase at Warrnambool racetrack on Thursday.

Banna Strand veered off course on Thursday and jumped a 7-foot brush fence into the crowd.

The horse was without a rider at the time after its jockey was thrown off earlier in the race.

The most serious injury was to a 2-year-old girl, who suffered a fractured collarbone.

Most of the other injured were treated and released at the hospital.

"I had my nephews with me and that so it was quite scary, I'm still shaking," said a woman who narrowly survived the accident.

John Green from Warrnambool Race Club called it "a freak incident," a view backed up by the state's Racing Minister Denis Napthine.

"It was quite an unprecedented freak incident and it needs to be put in that context," he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Racing Victoria says it will investigate the incident.
